Where students lose marks

Mixing up which heart side pumps oxygenated vs. deoxygenated blood

The right side of the heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs; the left side pumps oxygenated blood to the body — reversing the two is one of the most common errors in this subtopic.

Confusing arteries and veins by what they carry instead of their direction

Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood toward it — that's the true distinguishing rule, not which type of blood they carry, since the pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood and the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood, the one exception to the usual oxygen pattern.

Assuming digestion is purely mechanical or purely chemical

Digestion involves both mechanical breakdown (chewing, churning) and chemical breakdown (enzymes) happening at multiple points along the digestive tract, not one or the other exclusively.
